월마프, 2013년 1분기에 FCPA 조사대응과 방지를 위해 7,300만 달러 투입

해외부패방지법 위반으로 조사를 받고 있는 월마트(Wal-Mart)가 2013년 1분기동안만 조사 대응과 준법프로그램 개선을 위해 7,300만 달러(약 800억 원)을 사용하였다고 2013. 5. 16. 열릴 1분기 실적에 관한 전화 설명회(First Quarter Fiscal Year 2014 Earnings Call)에서 밝였다.
이 가운데 4,400만 달러는 조사 대응에 썼고, 2,900만 달러는 전세계 사업에 걸쳐서 부패방지 프로그램을 재점검하고, 제도를 개선하며, 조직을 개편하는데 투입하였다고 한다.   이 금액은 당초 예상했던 4,000만~4,500만 달러보다 크게 늘어난 비용이다.  월마트 경영진은 부패방지 관련 비용이 2분기에도 6,500~7,000만 달러에 이를 것이라고 예상하였다.

다음은 해외부패 대응에 관한 부분 요약이다.

• Total Corporate and Support expenses increased approximately $200 million or 44.4 percent. Our core corporate expenses increased 37.2 percent, including $73 million in expenses related to FCPA matters, which was above our forecasted range of $40 to $45 million. Approximately $44 million of the expenses represent costs incurred for the ongoing inquiries and investigations, while $29 million covers costs regarding the global compliance review, program enhancements and organizational changes. Excluding the FCPA matters, core corporate increased by approximately 14.6 percent.   (8쪽)
